The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: Four allegorical mounted figures described in the book of Revelation of Jesus Christ (to Saint John). The arrival of these “roughriders,” according to Christian interpretation, is a prelude of a divine apocalypse set upon the world, leading to the Great Tribulation and the “end of days.”

Joe Mclean of The Daily Beast has laid out an argument, which I have put forward, time and time again, that the Tea Party faction of the GOP is driven by “messianic zealots” (my words). It is a radical, evangelical ideology that drives today’s Republican Party despite itself. The root of their fervor, he alleges, is apocalypticism. Having witnessed the continuing exhortation to “take back their country” with a fervency akin to religiosity, this makes perfect sense to me. While Tea Party proponents claim a devotion to political ideology, their activism, statements, policy viewpoints, and historical interpretations belie this. Tea Party politics ARE religion.

It’s no wonder Abby Huntsman (MSNBC news program, The Cycle), 2012 Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman’s daughter, struggles to makes sense of the current GOP’s nonsensical party self-destruction. She along with Meghan McCain stand out as “extreme” Republican moderates in counterpoint to the ideas of Bachman, Cruz, and Palin, who are highlighted in the article.
