I have a longstanding personal relationship with the author, Carl Hitchens. Nevertheless, I had no specific or intimate knowledge of my friend's Viet Nam experiences or the legacy of those experiences on him. In Sitting with Warrior, the author has adroitly interspersed his memories, philosophical musings and profound questions with his visits with the Grandfather persona. The juxtaposition of recanted experiences and conversations with "Grandfather" seems to add interest and keep the reader engaged.

The variety of vocabulary and word usage in and of itself is a touchstone for the intelligence of the work and of the author.

I really think this literary work would be most meaningful to anyone who has been to war.
